Overview & Highlights

Discover Brazil’s astonishing natural landscapes and vibrant capital on this family-friendly adventure. Explore the sparkling bays of colourful Rio de Janeiro, the thunderous Iguazú Falls and secretive wildlife in the lush Amazon rainforest, before winding down on the paradise beaches of Praia do Forte.

Visit lively Rio de Janeiro, with mountains and jungle in the heart of the city.  Stroll along the beaches, whizz up the Sugar Loaf in a cable car and climb Corcovado mountain in an open-topped jeep. Thrill to the power of the Iguazú Falls, which crash over cliffs through tropical jungle filled with toucans and monkeys, exploring by boat and on foot. The exuberance of the Amazon jungle will not fail to impress: everything is on a huge scale, from towering trees sheltering monkeys, armies of soldier ants and electric blue butterflies.

The holiday ends with a few days on the coast with some of Brazil's best beaches. Praia do Forte is a relaxed former fishing village, while your eco-resort has something for all the family, from educational activities to horse-riding and snorkelling. There’s a turtle preservation project there too.

  • The overall Pato Andino experience was truly fantastic, the sheer number of breath taking sights to marvel at was incredible. Too many [memorable moments] to list but if I had to name one then seeing Laguna Blanca as it was the first breath taking sight of the trip for me and it wasn't just the altitude.

  • The day we visiting the Frida Kahlo and Trotsky museums and also the canal. As well as all the wonderful pyramids and the Copper Canyon extension were among my highlights. We were very impressed with our first experience of travelling with JLA. We have been to several Central and South American countries before and had underestimated the impact that Mexico would have on us. It had such a variety of experiences to offer, the colour, the music, the many different and dramatic archeological sites and political history. The ethnic mix added to the diversity and the people were all a delight to meet. JLA allowed us to experience this in its selection of places, accommodation, excursions and especially the tour leader.

  • Overall the Tangara trip was well structured, if a little hectic moving on every two nights. It achieved its main objectives and we saw fascinating parts of South America that we had long wanted to see. Our guide, was most assiduous, knew the area very well and eased our path considerably. The highlights for us on Tangara were i) The trip to Chiloe, particularly with the services of an excellent nature guide, ii) the visit to Iguazu, iii) Buenos Aries, and iv) of course Rio de Janeiro.
