Before joining Journey Latin America in 2008, Jenny enjoyed a diverse career ranging from marketing films for IMAX and UGC Cinemas to setting up her own business. Jenny has a master’s degree in Art History, speaks Italian and is an adventurous traveller with a giant repertoire of anecdotes from all over the world.

Jenny first visited Latin America in the summer before starting university, putting her student loan to good use! The six weeks she spent in Mexico were the start of a longstanding love of Latin culture, vibrancy and musicality that would soon see her return to backpack across South America. Jenny rates Cusco, Rio and the Atacama Desert amongst the highlights of her travels, and also loved Nicaragua’s Corn Islands, which she describes as reminiscent of how the Caribbean must have been 50 years ago. She is an avid scuba diver when she gets the chance, but will happily settle for fancy dress parties and skiing.

What Is Your Favourite...

Place:

Rio de Janeiro – with Christ the Redeemer keeping watch over the city there is something particularly atmospheric about Rio – the whole city buzzes with energy whilst some how managing to also feel extremely laid back.

Hotel:

The Explora hotels are set in such incredibly wild locations but are beautifully designed to fit in with their surroundings. The guides and staff are all incredibly welcoming and knowledgable and the food is absolutely divine.

Excursion

Machu Picchu – for me Latin America is synonymous with Machu Picchu so visiting was the culmination of a life long dream. The journey to get there is as exciting as the place itself and when you stop and take a moment to take in it’s history you literally have to pinch yourself.

Top Travel Tip

If you find yourself in Nicaragua make sure to spend some time on the Corn Islands – particularly Little Corn. It’s an unspoilt barefoot beach paradise and a step back in time to how the Caribbean would have been 50 years ago.

Top Packing Tip

If you’re heading to the jungle take a head torch. I cannot tell you how much I wish i had one on my first trip to the Amazon – useful for early morning/ late night walks, rummaging around in your backpack, and particularly useful if you need the loo in the night!
