Overview & Highlights

Peru’s classic highlights including Machu Picchu and the Spanish colonial treasure-house of Cusco, the Incas’ imperial capital. Climb past ranges of Andean volcanoes to the condor-flecked lip of Colca Canyon and head to the shores of Lake Titicaca.

This journey captures the natural and cultural highlights of this extraordinary country. Arrive in the vast metropolis of the capital, Lima, and move on to the arched colonial plazas of Arequipa, Peru’s atmospheric White City, which sits in the desert in the shadow of Volcano Misti. Travel by road up through stark desert scenery to remote Colca Canyon, where a traditional rural lifestyle has been preserved.

Drive on to the icy, sapphire waters of high-altitude Lake Titicaca. Continue by road to historic Cusco, the former Inca capital with its meticulous Inca stonework and graceful colonial architecture. It’s a short drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Continue by rail through a narrow gorge to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, set on a mountain saddle above the Urubamba Valley.

What our clients say

  • The Iguacu Falls were spectacular and most likely the most impressive Falls I will ever see. We were absolutely spellbound by the magnitude, scale and layout. Obviously, Machu Picchu takes your breath away. Nature and man-made wonders at their best!
The trip surpassed our expectations and I have already recommended Journey Latin America to friends and even to people I talked to on a bus in Machu Picchu, one of whom was from the U.S.A.

    PK, Ashton-Under-Lyne
  • The train journey from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu was amazing - the landscape was breathtaking, and the tour leader explained so much to us on the way.
The whole trip was well-organised allowing our group to maximise the time we had in beautiful Peru. We covered a large distance, but the pace was just right, and the accommodation was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

  • It was exciting just being in Patagonia. The hike in Torres and the Profunda ranch visit in El Calafate were wonderful because they were more personal than the usual tourist trips.
I loved it all and it could not have been better.

    SG, Berwick-upon-Tweed
  • Everything was memorable, Chilean landscapes are so different...Patagonia (Torres del Paine) was my favourite because it's just stunning. Valparaiso: wonderful colourful city, Atacama Desert: incredible landscapes, and so varied from one another, Lake District: superb. Seeing so much wildlife was fantastic (penguins, vicunas, guanacos...). And great food too - fish is amazing.

    EG, Hove
  • Amazingly the trip was everything I had hoped it would be. Having wanted to go to Patagonia since I can remember, and having the opportunity arise fairly last minute, choosing JLA was a good decision! Great itinerary and good organisation left me to enjoy the experience!

    JA, Sutton
  • Thank you for a wonderful trip!  We will return to South America in the future and JLA will be our first choice.
