Overview

This alluring historical town is found off the beaten track on Cuba's south-eastern tip.  Columbus was charmed by the area's beauty when he arrived here in 1492 and it became the island's first colonial settlement twenty years later.

It's a lively place - full of local atmosphere and character. The surrounding countryside is verdant and tropical, and dominated by the tabletop mountain of El Yunque.

Where to go when - our guide to Baracoa

Baracoa

The weather in Baracoa is wide and varied

Off the beaten track is the historical town of Baracoa, nestled among lush tropical countryside, sheltered white-sand coves and verdant plantations. Temperatures remain fairly consistent year round, hovering in the high 20°Cs. The high season (December - March) is sunny and dry, the perfect to explore the great outdoors and climb the astonishingly flat tabletop mountain of Yunque. The wet season begins in June, with high humidity and hurricanes possible between August - November.
