Ever wandered where classic movies were filmed? We spotted Latin America’s most impressive waterfalls in the following movies…

1. Iguazu Falls - Indiana Jones & Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Iguazu Falls

The Indiana Jones films have all been set in magnificent locations, admittedly we are a bit biased, but our favourite setting is the Iguazu falls! The Devil’s Throat best viewed from the Brazilian side, is the most spectacular part of the falls where approximately half of the river’s flow fall 82 metres in the narrow chasm. Have to confess surviving the drop down to Devil’s Throat seems virtually impossible!

2. Angel Falls, Venezuela – Up (2009)

Angel Falls

Having been overlooked by its impressive and grandiose neighbour, the Iguazu Falls, Angel Falls has only recently come into the spotlight with Venezuela opening up their doors to visitors. None other than David Attenborough’s favourite travelling spot inspired the creative setting for Disney’s animated film, Up. For those interested Venezuela is littered with the peculiar rock formations which can be found atop the table top mountain, Kukebán-tepui which is a striking sight.

3. Kaieteur Falls, Guyana - The White Diamond (2004)

Kaieteur Falls, Guyana

Although these waterfalls are all often backdrop settings in Hollywood blockbusters, they are most commonly found in documentary films. The White Diamond is an extraordinary work by Werner Herzog illustrating the history of aviation, in particular Dr Graham Dorrington’s adventure – an aeronautical engineer travelling in a helium-filled invention. The documentary captures the lush forestation of Guyana as it travel above the tree tops until reaching its destination, the giant Kaieteur Falls.

4. Agua Azul, Mexico - Predator (1987)

The popular 80’s film saw Arnold Schwarzenegger hunting down something out of this world in Central America. The entire movie was filmed in Mexico with scenes in the forest surrounding the Mayan ruins of Palenque, Agua Azul but mostly in Puerto Vallarta. Although the waterfall may have appeared in a chilling thriller, the sapphire blue waters are not a creepy sight!
