Overview & Highlights

This self-drive holiday takes you to the Argentine lake district and the wilderness landscape of snow-tipped mountains and glaciers in the far south. Explore at your own pace in a hire-car with all your accommodation pre-booked.

This holiday showcases two regions of Patagonia where independent self-drive opens up amazing landscapes for you to explore at your leisure and preferred speed. You have freedom as soon as you get behind the wheel but also the security of knowing your accommodation is booked for you at the end of a day on the road.

Discover Argentina’s glorious lake district, a feast of virgin forests and rugged mountains reflected in a necklace of glassy lakes. The highlight is the drive north along the poster-perfect Seven Lakes Route to tranquil San Martin de los Andes. Later, fly south to visit two of Patagonia’s finest national parks: Los Glaciares and Fitz Roy. Besides scenic drives all round, each offers uniquely different experiences once you’ve parked the car.

What our clients say

  • Please describe the most memorable experience/aspect of your trip? "In Galapagos; swimming with a playful Sea Lion, having a penguin swim right under my tummy and watching white tipped sharks cruise by all in the same snorkel session!"

"Journey Latin America came highly recommended to us, in turn we highly recommend them to you."

  • Easter Island extension should be recommended to all. it was magical. The moai were amazing. Torres del Paine was also awe inspiring.
Excellent as with the trip we did with you to Mexico last year. We have been to many countries in Latin America but only this trip and Mexico with JLA. I wish we had discovered JLA before.

  • A well thought out tour with a good balance of culture, scenery and larger towns. The tour leader was excellent and the local guides were friendly and knowledgeable with great enthusiasm for their subjects. Good value for money and would have no problem with recommending JLA and will almost certainly use the company again.

  • The Alcion Tour is a an excellent trip to take if you want to travel to the less travelled countries in Central America. The tour covers all the essential sites but it is the colours and flavours of the cities and towns you visit and the warmth and kindness of the people, particularly in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras, that really make this a wonderful trip. There are some long journeys but it is a real opportunity to see life as it is lived by the locals. Visit beautiful islands, see amazing wildlife, try fabulous local food and enjoy these wonderful countries. It's an adventure and an experience.

  • Monte Alban when I felt on top Of the world.  A vast archaeological site, wonderfully interpreted by a local guide and not too many other tourists.

  • This tour packed in an amazing amount in such a large country. You might have liked longer at some sites, but that could have been very exhausting!
