The Cuban authorities have introduced a law making bank workers personally responsible for the correct processing of traveller’s cheques. If the cashed cheque is not accepted by the issuing bank for any reason, cashiers must repay the bank from their own pockets. Understandably, as a consequence many cashiers are very reluctant to accept them – best to take bank cards and cash (sterling or euros are easily exchanged; avoid dollars).
