Sofitel Montevideo Carrasco
Ultra luxury hotel in Carrasco, atmospheric riverside quarter in Montevideo.
The spectacular luxury hotel Sofitel Montevideo Carrasco opened in June 2013 in the classy, residential beach suburb of Carrasco, overlooking the golden beaches of the River Plate. It is the reincarnation of the former Carrasco Hotel & Casino, originally opened in 1916 as the premier beach hotel for South America’s wealthier classes. After refurbishment, today’s re-invention is magnificent: an opulent blend of original features and quirky, avant-garde interior design.
Restaurant 1921 specialises in Franco-Uruguayan cuisine and guests can dine with views of the River Plate. The hotel is separated from the beach by a deserted dual carriageway. Plenty of people use the beaches in Carrasco – although it looks like the Atlantic Ocean it’s still the River Plate all the way to Punta del Este. The guest rooms are more conventional in style than the public areas and there’s little to suggest you’re in an historic property –the décor is contemporary-neutral but extremely comfortable – carpeted, and with quality modern faux mahogany furnishings and beautiful ambient-lit bathrooms.

Our Expert's Opinion
The grandeur of this fantastic building is impossible to ignore and one of its main attractions; it’s has been beautifully restored and though the rooms are not as lavish as one would expect due to what the public areas look like, they are incredibly comfortable and suited to the overall feeling. The restaurant is excellent and worth a try!
