What to expect from your Chile holiday
Chile’s natural beauty is the country’s biggest draw – offering everything from the scorched lunar landscape of the Atacama Desert to the fertile valleys of the wine country, the snow-capped volcanoes and lakes of the lake district, and the wild, untouched wilderness of Chilean Patagonia in the south. This is a country built for outdoor activities, with national parks, giant glaciers and dramatic coastlines at every turn. The icing on the cake is Easter Island (Rapa Nui), a remote Chilean territory with a Polynesian culture that sits two time zones away in the Pacific Ocean.
Chile is a proud country with a strong heritage in arts and culture, particularly in the capital Santiago – a vibrant city that has produced world-famous poets and authors. Modern-day Chile is peaceful, welcoming and well-connected, with good infrastructure that makes it surprisingly easy to get around despite its extraordinary length. You’ll find excellent hotels, fresh Pacific seafood and some outstanding Chilean wine.

Where to go when - our guide to Chile
The weather in Chile is wide and varied
Chile stretches out across 4,300 kilometres, encompassing some of the most diverse landscapes that South America has to offer. Between the scorched Atacama Desert of the north and the majestic Patagonian wilderness of the south, the climate varies considerably.
December to February are the peak summer months, with higher temperatures and less rainfall drawing plenty of local and international visitors. Clear summer skies create the perfect conditions for stargazing in the lunar landscapes of the Atacama Desert, or for taking in vistas of the towering massifs and jagged glaciers of Torres del Paine National Park.
The vineyards surrounding Santiago are tempting during Autumn (March until May) when the Vendimias wine harvesting celebrations take place in the glow of crimson and gold-hued foliage. The colder winter months (June to August) are ideal for skiing in the pristine Andean slopes of Valle Nevado, or in the glacial hinterland of southern Patagonia. Bursts of rain and sunny days in spring awaken a deluge of wildflowers across the country, and a huge variety of wild animals are easier to spot in the national parks with fewer visitors to disturb them.
