Overview & Highlights

Visit this resurgent eco-tourism destination on a luxury holiday staying in sumptuous surroundings. Experience Mayan ruins, abundant wildlife, river-canoeing expeditions,  hikes in bird-filled forests and snorkelling off pearl-white beaches.

Belize is tiny - a little larger than Wales – so it easy to sample its natural and cultural attractions in a short space of time. This luxurious holiday visits just three places but yields a flavour of the variety of landscapes without arduous travelling.

Belize, formerly British Honduras, was once the haunt of back-packers and homesick British soldiers. Now it is now a much-sought-after destination for lovers of nature and beautiful beaches. This English-speaking republic is unique - a cocktail of Creole, British colonial, indigenous Maya, Mennonite and Spanish cultures.  The coast is unmistakably Caribbean: silky white-sand beaches and coral atolls, palm trees, turquoise seas, laid-back people, reggae rhythms and rum punch. Belize has the world’s second-largest barrier reef and the undersea world here is a theatre of exotic fish and other marine species living among the coral. Behind the coast in the back-country there are forested highlands cut through by sparkling rivers and waterfalls, with plenty of pools in which to swim.

What our clients say

  • The Alcion Tour is a an excellent trip to take if you want to travel to the less travelled countries in Central America. The tour covers all the essential sites but it is the colours and flavours of the cities and towns you visit and the warmth and kindness of the people, particularly in Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras, that really make this a wonderful trip. There are some long journeys but it is a real opportunity to see life as it is lived by the locals. Visit beautiful islands, see amazing wildlife, try fabulous local food and enjoy these wonderful countries. It's an adventure and an experience.

  • Eagle was an epic trip within all of its parameters; geographic, cultural, historic and culinary. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

  • The first view of Machu Picchu from the watchman's tower, the view from El Alto overlooking La Paz and surrounding mountains and the Iguazu Falls will remain with me always. Also very pleased with the standard of accommodation.

Overall this was the most interesting and varied holiday I have ever been on and was a superb introduction to what was, for me, a new area of the world.

  • Dreams are true while they last, and do we not live in dreams? (Tennyson). I had long dreamt of travelling to South America, so I booked and went, and my dreams came true. The dreams were wondrous while they lasted and although now inevitably they start to fade, into their place comes a welter of brilliant, enduring, magical memories. And so the theme of this letter is thank you JLA!

  • Highlights? "Where to start? Angel Falls, Kaieteur Falls, the Iles de Salut, sleeping in a hammock, flying in small planes - just loved everything. The range of hotels from very high quality to pretty grotty was what we expected. The trip was exactly as described = we loved every minute!

This is our third trip - Cuba in 2000, Central America in 2009 and this one. I think the general feeling about JLA is that it is slightly more expensive than other companies offering small group tours but I think this reflects the effort which goes into providing travel experience which, in all three cases, has been both enjoyable and memorable."
