Sail to Los Arrayanes National Park
Lake Nahuel Huapi, in the national park of the same name, is right near the top of anyone’s list of the most picturesque places in Argentina. Its glacial waters are crystal clear and cobalt blue under a clear sky. The shores are scalloped with fjords fringed by Valdivian rainforest, and the lake itself is sprinkled with islands.
Take to the water to explore by motor launch, mooring at Victoria Island, with its gentle trails leading through dense woodland of cypress, pine and monkey puzzle beautified by roses and wild flowers, where woodpeckers peck and hummingbirds hum.
Sail on to Quetrihué to discover the bright cinnamon-coloured ayyarán trees in the myrtle forest known as Bosque (Forest) de Arrayanes, strolling along a wooden walkway enjoying sumptuous views. The park was created to protect these graceful trees, with their twisted trunks, peeling bark, white flowers and blue-black fruits. This is one of very few places in the world where they grow to full size and some of the specimens are 300 years old.
