Elegant hotel in a prime location near the main square; a magnificent example of Art Nouveau architecture.

The well-located Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico, less than a block from the main square in the heart of the historical area, it epitomises the elegance of a bygone era. It was built at the turn of the last century and the vast belle époque lobby is particularly striking with a beautiful stained glass ceiling, grand marble staircase, chandeliers and evocative wrought iron elevators.

The regally appointed guestrooms are set on four floors; suites have four-poster beds and some overlook the Zócalo. There are two restaurants, both popular with locals, as well as a cocktail lounge and roof terrace/bar.

  • We loved this hotel because of its amazing character and lovely staff. Very attractive breakfast room and roof terrace with fantastic view of the zocalo. It does have some slightly tired features though!  E.g. the shower taps needed some attention.

  • "We were pleasantly surprised to be given a room upgrade by the hotel. This was because of noise from a wedding on our last night. However the room upgrade was for the whole of our stay! We enjoyed the trip to Teotihuacan which was arranged by the hotel and the general festivities of Los dias de las muertas!!”

  • Hotel is beautiful and location is superb. The only problem we experienced was that it was quite cold in our rooms.
