Walking in the Vinales valley
There are few more idyllic settings for walking in Cuba than the enchanted terrain of the Viñales valley, with its sheer limestone monoliths rising from fertile plains pocked with underground caverns. Though within easy reach of Havana, it feels rural and remote, partly due to the 'lost world' atmosphere lent by the distinctive mogotes – enormous rock formations that transform the bucolic Cuban landscape into a natural wonderland.
There are walks of up to 9km, showcasing the best of the valley as well as offering the chance to interact with local farmers and visit a tobacco farm.
