See Olive Ridley turtles nesting

olive ridley turtles

Witness one of nature's most humbling spectacles as sea turtles return to the beach where they were born to hatch the next generation.

Guiones beach at Nosara in Costa Rica is one of the key breeding areas for Olive Ridley turtles, which arrive en masse to nest every full moon. In the nights just afterwards, you’ll see the dark sands strewn with cracked eggs as newborn turtles tentatively make their way towards the uncertainty of the ocean.

You arrive at this isolated beach on the back of a truck under the glowing light of the moon, and there is a sense of anticipation as you prepare to watch a moving and extraordinary natural event. Turtles famously return to lay their eggs on the same beach where they hatched, so whether you see mothers crowding the beach to birth their eggs or baby turtles emerging for the first time, you are witnessing part of a timeless cycle destined to repeat itself throughout the generations.
