A tented lodge in Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve offering excellent wildlife and birdwatching opportunities.

This safari-style tented lodge is set within Caño Negro, a remote wetland reserve near the Nicaraguan border and an important migratory route for birds.

The property features 20 spacious tents, each thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Interiors are finished to a high standard and include a king-size bed, air conditioning, and a double-sink bathroom. Outdoors, guests enjoy a private garden with a rainforest shower and a soaking tub.

The open-air restaurant and bar overlook the Río Frío and surrounding wetlands. The menu combines traditional Costa Rican flavours with international cuisine, using fresh local ingredients – many sourced from the lodge’s own farm. After dinner, unwind by one of the fire pits under the stars.

The camp is committed to preserving the beauty of Caño Negro and minimizing environmental impact. A natural swimming pool uses aquatic plants instead of chemicals for water purification, and guests are invited to plant a tree as part of the lodge’s reforestation initiative.

A guided excursion is included daily, with birdwatching, nature walks, and horseback riding on offer. For an additional cost, guests can book a three-hour wildlife-spotting boat trip through the Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve.
