A small and intimate hacienda in the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Region.

The bumpy journey down a dirt track, past cacao, yuca, and citrus plantations, is more than worth it once you arrive at Hacienda Bambusa, a boutique hotel set within a traditional two‑story villa crafted from bamboo (‘bambusa’) and clay.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens and constant birdsong – more than 160 species have been recorded here – and with views towards the Andes, the hacienda offers a secluded and intimate stay in the heart of Colombia’s coffee‑producing region. Armenia airport is a 45‑minute drive away, while Pereira airport can be reached in 1 ½ hours.

The hacienda only has 7 guestrooms, and each space is elegantly furnished in a rustic‑chic style, featuring king‑sized beds with crisp white linens, modern artwork, and bathrooms accented with colourful ceramic tiles, copper fixtures, and luxury amenities. All rooms open onto a private balcony or terrace equipped with a hummingbird feeder, a hammock, and comfortable bamboo furniture, making it easy to sink into the tranquil pace of the hacienda. The ground-floor suites also include a private plunge pool and an inviting outdoor seating area.

While there are no restaurants nearby, the hacienda’s own imaginative à la carte menu more than compensates. Much of the produce is grown on site, and guests can dine on the terrace or in the gardens, sometimes accompanied by live music that adds to the relaxed, convivial atmosphere.

There’s plenty to do in and around the hacienda’s grounds – from birdwatching, hiking, and mountain biking to coffee and cacao tastings – but we also recommend setting aside time simply to enjoy the pool, spa, and the peaceful rhythms of rural Colombia.
