Casa San Agustin
A sumptuous boutique hotel inside Cartagena’s historic Old Town and offering guests exclusive access to a private beach on the island of Barú.
Tucked within the storied walls of Cartagena’s historic Old Town, Casa San Agustín is a whitewashed colonial-era mansion transformed into one of the city’s most refined boutique hotels. It exudes a quiet, intentional kind of luxury – tasteful and connected to its heritage. A restored section of Cartagena’s 17th century aqueduct runs through the property, its timber street-facing balconies remain intact, and the library’s restored frescoes lend the interiors a sense of history and originality.
The hotel’s 20 rooms and 11 suites are furnished in a soothing palette inspired by the Caribbean Sea and Cartagena’s coastal light. Spaces blend period features with modern comforts: wooden beamed ceilings and epoch-inspired furniture sit alongside sumptuous king size beds dressed in Frette linens, air conditioning, and luxurious Italian toiletries. Some suites include private patios and plunge pools.
Alma, the hotel’s signature restaurant, serves refined Colombian and Caribbean inspired cuisine in a setting that mirrors the hotel’s understated elegance. Open to the public for lunch and dinner, reservations are recommended. The adjacent bar is perfect for a pre dinner cocktail.
Beyond the rooms, amenities include a library, a roof terrace, a serene L shaped swimming pool that passes beneath the 17th century aqueduct, a spa, 24 hour room service, and complimentary bicycles for exploring the walled city at your own pace.
Guests staying at Casa San Agustín also receive exclusive access to Acasi, a private beach on the island of Barú, a one hour boat trip from Cartagena. It’s a welcome escape from the city’s heat – a picturesque coastal spot with opportunities for kayaking and snorkeling.
