Visit Bahian Cachoeira

bra29-cachoriea-free-dn

See a different side to Bahia on this day trip through the back-country to the historic port of Cachoeira, now a sleepy riverside town.

The small town of Cachoeira once had a big part to play in the fortunes of the state of Bahia. It was an export hub for the area’s plantations, and thanks to wealth gained off the back of the slave trade its streets were soon lined with handsome mansions.

However Cachoeira’s busy days are at an end and now you’ll find this languid port town a relaxing and charming place to stroll and soak up the riverside atmosphere. It’s a peaceful drive through agricultural land to reach the town, where you’ll be treated to a memorable meal in a 17th century convent before taking in the crumbling historical sights.
