Cheerful and charming small guesthouse in the historic centre, with a particularly lovely rooftop terrace overlooking the bay.

Cheerful and charming small Pousada do Pilar is conveniently located in Salvador's historic centre. Rooms are set over three floors, with balconies looking out over the cobbled streets or towards the ocean. Perhaps the hotel's best feature is its lovely rooftop terrace with sweeping views of the bay, the setting for a delicious breakfast buffet.

The building dates back to the 19th century and a sense of the city's colonial past is preserved in its architecture and décor. The lobby is particularly delightful, with panels of exposed stonework and a colourful collection of local art.

Our Expert's Opinion

I have nothing but good memories of my stay here, the pousada is simple but bright and teeming with local character. The staff gave us an incredibly warm Bahian welcome and we enjoyed an evening caipirinha on the terrace as the Pelourinho district came to life below.
