explora el Chalten
A sparkling new top-end explora lodge offers superb wilderness experiences nestled below the jagged peaks of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, deep within Los Glaciares National Park.
The popular "explora" portfolio of superior, experience-orientated and environmentally friendly properties in remote wilderness landscapes is enhanced with this striking lodge in Los Glaciares National Park, Argentine Patagonia. At the foot of giant glaciated peaks, its contemporary, low-rise buildings nestle harmoniously in Los Huemules Natural Reserve, devoted to the preservation of native flora and fauna.
These are the most comfortable lodgings available in this far-flung corner of Patagonia, with personalised service, spacious modern guest rooms and suites fashioned with generous use of silky blond wood, and delicious high-end cuisine. The lunch and dinner menus are inspired by regional Patagonian recipes. There’s a full spa service with hydro-massages, sauna, and a massage room especially designed to enjoy the views.
The moment you step out outside, the reserve's trails reveal native Patagonian forests, a tumbling glacier, immense lagoons and cloud-swirling views of the Fitz Roy massif’s spiky peaks. Enjoy superb guided activities and, after a day spent outdoors, return to your cosy retreat to relax, recharge and socialise.
What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
Not easy to pick out a highlight. It was a very varied trip as we had requested. The natural scenery around Salta, Iguazu, the Lakes and all over Patagonia was amazing, helped by some very favourable weather. The top hotels - Patagonia Camp, Patios de Cafayate, Arakur were great; some of the lesser hotels surpassed their descriptions - Molinos, la Yegua Loca, Anslemo;...The Andean Crossing was fabulous: fantastic scenery which we saw in perfect conditions, with very easy transfers and helpful guides.CB, Winchester
Most memorable experience: "First - the Andean crossing from Puerta Varas to Bariloche. Perfect weather, scenery and organisation. Second - Patagonia Camp and the mini-treks we did around the Park. Beautiful Third - Salta and the Cachi/Cafayate trip. Interesting, historic and magnificent."RW, Cobham

The mountain trip in Mendoza was spectacular. We loved Buenos Aires too.PW, Tonbridge
Difficult to identify (the highlights of my self drive holiday)... I would highlight the interest of the looping drive down the mountains to the west....watching the leaves of the roadside foliage increase in size as the temperature rose was mesmerising. I would suggest that the pleasure of long drives through changing countryside is one of the unsung pleasures of such holidays as mine. But perhaps that's just lazy old me!RS, Salisbury
Most Memorable Moment?: Impossible to say, as each element was so different from the rest. La Bamba certainly will leave an enduring memory. Just the way to chill out after a fairly busy itinerary.AD, London
Highlights: So many...the Perito Moreno glacier, meeting friendly Argentinians, riding with the Gauchos , the stunning scenery of Bariloche.DB, London
Highlights:- Hard to choose one: all the trips in Iguazu and Patagonia were spectacular, as was the impromptu tango in a bar in Puerto Iguazu and the guitarist in the market in San TelmoBV
Most memorable experiences: "Perito Moreno glacier - my photos don't come near to conveying its magnificence! Bus over the Andes. More comfortable than a flight and the mountains are truly awesome (was a long day, however,at around 8hrs 30mins.)"AW, Leeds
We have had a great holiday in Argentina, partly organised by JLA and would certainly recommend JLA to anyone that wants to have such a trip, as they provided very good knowledge of the areas we visited and good organisation.LS, Zurich
Most Memorable Moment?: Sitting by the shore of Laguna de los Tres at the base of Mount Fitz Roy in El Chaltén ... or sitting in a wood-fired hot-tub on the first day of our honey-moon, overwrought, slightly jet lagged and very happily married!RB, London
A succession of world class excursions throughout the two weeks.JS, Newbury

Excellent trip during which we felt we saw some of the real Argentina. Delightful and helpful people abounded who had an enviable pride in their country. Excellent service from JLA (particularly Lina) and local representatives in Argentina added to our enjoyment.ML, Cheltenham
We both thought that the experience and power of the Iguazu Falls when we were alone in the grounds on our own (early in the morning before the crowds arrived) was an experience of a lifetime. We've never seen an almost circular rainbow caused by the river's spray before.AP, London
Highlights?: The guides Laura, Rami and Roberto were tremendous. Highlights among many definitely include the Salta Trip to the Clouds Day, the Iguazu Falls (esp the Argentine side)and the Bariloche hiking days.JD, London
