A leisure brand of the international Wyndham group, Esplendor hotels are known for their unusual, occasionally outlandish interior design, lending an element of fun and individuality to these mid-range properties. Esplendor El Calafate is no exception: the theme is unmistakably Patagonian from the moment you enter. Perched above the centre of El Calafate, the hotel has impressive views of Lago Argentino from the panoramic windows of its warm and welcoming public areas. Driftwood, stone-work and muted tones reflect the tawny steppes of Patagonia, whilst animal hides drape the soft furnishings. The theme continues through to the guest rooms, where the distinctive ceiling lights are made of antlers – and of course you’ll also find the essentials such as heating and internet. Although you’re just outside the centre of El Calafate here, the bar and restaurant are sufficiently inviting if you’d rather not walk the 10 minutes or so into town where there’s a great range of typical Patagonian eateries and watering holes.
