OUR GUIDE TO the weather in the Weddell Sea
The shimmering towers of pack-ice on the Weddell Sea are home to basking leopard seals and throngs of gentoo and Adélie penguins, while a rookery of Emperor penguins is to be found at Snow Hill Island. Temperatures here tend to be below freezing, with the mildest weather found in January. In December the days are so long that sometimes the sun does not set.
