North America Stopovers
Why Add a Stopover in North America?
When travelling from the UK to Central and South America, you’ll often have the option to fly via the USA or Canada en route to your final destination. This creates the perfect opportunity to break up the journey and get even more out of your holiday.
The Americas are an incredibly diverse and fascinating part of the world, with the South, Central and North each offering completely unique experiences across their landscapes, climates and towns – so why not get the best of both on your next holiday? Instead of simply waiting in an airport for your flight connection, spend a couple of days getting to experience a brand-new and equally rewarding location.
What are the Best Stopovers in North America?
We’ve partnered with our sister brand, Journeyscape, to create some unique stopover itineraries to complement our tours in Latin America. These include many wonderful cities across the USA and Canada: explore New York City’s incredible museums before discovering Costa Rica’s native wildlife; experience world-class ballet, opera, and symphony in Houston before beginning your adventure in Peru; and stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal before walking along the ruins of Chichén Itzá and Tikal. With our short tailor-made stopover itineraries, you can immerse yourself in a whole other part of the world as part of your holiday to Latin America.
FAQs
How can I add a North America stopover to my Latin America holiday?
If you are interested in adding a North America extension to your holiday in Latin America, get in touch with one of our Travel Experts who can advise you on what North American destinations and itineraries could be combined in conjunction with your final destination.
Will I need a separate visa or travel authorisation for my North America stopover?
Yes, anyone who travels through the US or Canada, even just for a connecting flight, will need prior travel authorisation. Canada requires the eTA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) and the US requires the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). Both are entry requirements for visa-exempt foreign nationals, like those from the UK and the EU, and can easily be obtained by filling in a short form and paying a small fee.
Can Journey Latin America arrange all flights, transfers, and accommodation for my stopover?
Yes, of course! At Journey Latin America, our travel experts are on hand to create a bespoke itinerary with you for your stopover, and that includes all flights, transfers, accommodation, day-to-day suggestions, optional tickets or tours. We take care of everything from start to finish and tailor it to you.
How much additional time should I allow for a stopover before or after my main Latin America itinerary?
We recommend a minimum of 3 days for a stopover to ensure just enough time to explore somewhere new. Speak with one of our travel experts to figure out what duration is best suited for you and your holiday.
Can I book any of the Stopover Holidays separately?
No. Our Stopover Holidays have been specifically designed as add-ons or extensions that can be taken before or after your holiday in Latin America. However, if you are interested in a holiday solely in North America, please visit our sister brand Journeyscape (we’re just a few desks away!).
