Taste the food and flavours of Rio

Brazil_Rio_Things to do_Flavours of Brazil (9)

See an alternative side of Rio on this tour across the city from one sampling stop to another.

Brazilian food and drink can be an enigma to the uninitiated, from tapioca (cassava pancakes eaten at breakfast) to suco de caju, a delicious juice made from the fruit of the cashew tree. In fact Brazilians delight in an array of tropical fruits you may never have known exist, let alone tasted.

Our informal half day food tour aims to get you acquainted some of the flavoursome delights you may encounter during your travels. We take you away from the more predictable offerings of Rio's beachfront to the neighbourhoods of Gloria, Flamengo, Lapa and downtown, where Cariocas live, work and eat. Several sampling stops are made, including street food stalls, bars or markets replete with fresh produce and street food, a reflection of the different states of this enormous federal republic as well as its Portuguese colonial heritage.

You may also try a caipirinha or sample one of the country's craft beers. You might go easy on breakfast: our tours begin mid-morning and cover the lunchtime period before we drop you off at siesta time.
