Overview & Highlights
A good value expedition cruise on a small and friendly vessel exploring the wildlife-rich wilderness coast of Panama and Costa Rica.
- Half day shared guided tour of historical Panama City
- A choice of activities from the ship - all are included in the price
Board your small, intimate vessel for a 13-day expedition-style cruise to discover the natural landscapes, wildlife and indigenous cultures of the captivating Caribbean and Pacific coasts of tropical Panama and Costa Rica. Your US-owned cruise operator puts the accent on exploring sensitively some of the most exquisite and fragile environments of Central America, while making sure you have a diverse range of experiences and activities. You'll have plenty of fun and relaxation while learning so much about the carefully selected places on your itinerary. You’ll soon get to know your fellow travellers, representing a mix of ages and passions, and your well-informed crew are always on hand.
The holiday starts in Panama City, one of the most diverse metropolises in Latin America with a gorgeous historic core. Having boarded your 62-guest cruise vessel, Safari Voyager, you will set sail through the Panama Canal, definitely one of the highlights of the trip. During your voyage you will visit a number of sparsely populated archipelagos, where crystal clear waters stroke coral beaches fringed by rainforest. You will meet their indigenous inhabitants and there are plenty of opportunities to go wildlife spotting, with hikes, snorkelling, kayaking and paddle-boarding all on offer. In the evenings you will be able to mix in a sociable environment with passengers and crew, watching the world go by through huge picture windows, a cocktail in your hand.

What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
Excellent professional service both before and during the holiday. Would certainly recommend Journey Latin America as a company to discover South America with.EW, Weston-Super-Mare
"This trip was just amazing. I just seemed to keep saying WOW - the walls the Incas built, their terraces, how they did all the construction on the top of the mountains, the Uros people of Lake Titicaca. As for the Galapagos Islands they were everything I hoped for - round every corner there was something to see and identify. It took a long time to get to Peru and Ecuador but it was worth every minute - thank you for a wonderful trip."ES, Nairn
Most memorable experience/aspect of your trip? "There are several - riding in different types of transportation i.e. coco cabs, bike taxi, American Chevy etc. The plantation walk in Vinales, meals arranged by the tour leader in paradors and the knowledge of the local guides."MR, Broxbourne
Our most memorable moments were the views in Rio, the Iguassu Falls, the initial impressions of La Paz, Copacabana and Puno (especially the hotel in Puno with its views of the Lake), the Andean Explorer and Sacred Valley train journeys and the magnificence of the Andes and Macchu Picchu.MH, Sherborne
"Getting to Machu Picchu after a 50 year dream was amazing. Although the whole of Bolivia was magical stunning scenery excellent guides and a surrealistic landscape."MF, Warwick
Overall a very enjoyable trip - some long days and early starts but was easily do-able for a group mainly consisting of people in their 50s and 60s. Saw many amazing sights. Excellent organisation - everything worked - buses, flights, pick ups, minibuses, coaches, boats, trains etc! Never arrived anywhere and there was no-one to meet us. Had a great holiday!LB, New Malden
Where do we start? 25 condors at Colca Canyon, vicuna, llama and alpaca at every turn, fabulous weather, the surprising majesty of the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and the amazing Iguassu Falls in full flow after heavy rain in the interior. 6 equally wonderful experiences.MR, St Albans
A very well organised and fascinating holiday. An excellent tour leader who helped make the experience very special. Thank you all for all your efforts on our behalf.
Most memorable?? - Too many to mention, just Aisen itself really.JH, Swindon
Most memorable experience? "There were too many things but Bolivia in general and the Salt Plains in particular were amazing plus the flamingos. I also loved the night on Sun island. I never expected it to be so beautiful."JS, Leeds
This was the first time I travelled with JLA and I have been impressed with the quality of personal service and enjoyed the itinerary very much.PM, Wirral
"This was our second trip with you and we have again been very pleased with the whole experience: if we are going to spend such a lot of money on a holiday, we want to know that the company are real experts, and that everything will be done efficiently and professionally. Thank you."LK, Gerrards Cross
This was such a good trip, with varying sights and weather, from the tropics to perishing Patagonia!AW, Orpington
This tour packed in an amazing amount in such a large country. You might have liked longer at some sites, but that could have been very exhausting!NH, Grimsby
An excellent holiday made especially memorable by the leadership, thoughtfulness and humour of our guide.RL, Reading
Cuba is a very diverse country and fulfilled our expectations. Parakeet is an adventure rather than a holiday so go with an open mind and immerse your self in the Cuban way. Colour, music and smiles more than make up for what some people may find frustrating if comparing Cuba to life in the UK.GW, BIrmingham
I travelled with a great group of people, a fantastic Tour Leader and amazing Driver. One of my best JLA experiences.JH, Woking
This was my first tour with JLA, and I would certainly have it as my first choice for tours in South America in the future.
The two journeys from Cajamarca to Leymebamba and Arequipa to Chivay had such spectacular scenery.MK, Hassocks
Highlights? "There were many. Cuba itself is a fascinating country, a unique combination of geography, history, politics, culture and music. Highlights include: horse riding through the Valle de Silencio in Vinales, riding in an old American convertible car in Havana, visiting the Che Guevara Mausoleum and the Bay of Pigs Museum, numerous meals and drinks in restaurants and bars with great live music as a soundtrack to the tour, the intoxicating atmosphere walking along Obispo in Havana, a microcosm of Cuban life, the beautiful, faded architecture, different in each town we visited, the number of working horses everywhere, the resilience of Cubans in the face of grinding poverty and a repressive regime, spontaneous music performed everywhere at any time."DK, Coventry
An excellent holiday that certainly lived up to expectations. Very happy to have travelled again with JLA, after our first trip with you from Brazil to Peru, with an extension to Ecuador (just 26 years ago!) Thanks again.DA, York
Experiencing an interesting mix of Colombian landscapes and wildlife and getting a real feel of the country and its people. Particularly liked Mompos and the Magdelena river and seeing the wax palms in the Valle de Cocora.JB. Gosport
I loved the beauty of the Solentiname Islands and Corn Islands. But my favourite part of the trip was definitely Leon as there is so much fascinating recent history.FW, Leamington Spa
We enjoyed all our excursions. Rio was a great start. The views from the Sugar Loaf were quite spectacular. Likewise the trips at both sides of the Iguazu Falls provided stunning scenery and of course Machu Picchu which even surpassed our epectations. Our first optional excursion was fascinating - up Corcovado. We also thoroughly enjoyed our helicopter trip over the falls, and the day trip to Potosi - a different and very interesting trip with lots to see.We also enjoyed visiting Moon Valley with its varied and interesting formations and in contrast going in to Lima. Every trip was worthwhile and enjoyable.JR, Swansea
Really it was the whole experience. A well-organised trip with lots of interesting things to see and do with people we got on well with and a knowledgeable, friendly, helpful guide.
How, if at all, could your holiday have been improved? "I could not imagine that my holiday could have been better."
"Cuba is changing, so go now before it's too late. Take in the Music and Dance on every Street Corner. Beautiful people, and a hard won Socialist ideal."CA, London
Impossible! Without exception every part of the trip was memorable and as the holiday progressed we ran out of superlatives to describe it!
This was an extremely well thought out and planned trip which gave us an excellent introduction to the 3 countries and left us impatient to return. It was a great mix of the iconic sights and less visited places of natural beauty. The group we were with were great, the tour leader was outstanding - and we really find it hard to recommend improvements.
This trip was our introduction to Latin America and it greatly exceeded our expectations. A varied and well organised trip which gave us a real feel for the countries we visited, with an outstanding tour leader. The holiday left us wanting to return to explore other parts of the continent and we would certainly travel with JLA again.
"It was a magical experience, a well organized trip that gave me piece of mind, which is what a holiday should be. Well done Journey Latin America."LM, Arbroath
There were many wonderful memories. Iguacu was amazing and Machu Picchu was intriguing. Landscapes were fascinating & the people were friendly. Lovely to see the colourful costumes & markets.JP, Nottingham
The entire trip was very varied. Travelling through the lake lands of Bolivia was great in 4x4s. The clarity of the skies in San Pedro Chile and time to relax. Cusco and the Inca sites at Ollyantytambo, Pisco and Machu Picchu. The Drive from Hydro-Elektrica to Cusco along mountain tracks in a mini bus with sheer drops of several hundred metres to the valley. The Martin Chambi Photo exhibition in Cusco. Lima was surprisingly attractive...but there were many many aspects that were great and I could write pages.LRA, London
It is difficult to identify a highlight as the whole trip was so varied and memorable. However, the yurt and the landscapes in Torres del Paine and Iguazu were spectacular.VP, Haywards Heath
Guatemala is a very beautiful and interesting country which deserves to be better known. The history of the Maya and their ancient sites is fascinating, much enhanced by the fact that the Maya people are still there and their customs and traditions can be observed. The scenery, colonial architecture and birdlife: outstanding.JE, Ware
Everything exceeded expectations, from the printed itinerary to the excursions.SB, Mansfield
