Casa Catrina occupies a typically quaint Oaxaca townhouse, full of character with period touches shining through alongside modern-day twists.

It was set up by a well-known local artist, Rolando Rojas, and his artwork (amongst other Mexican abstract artists) is displayed throughout the building. With just 6 rooms and a shady breakfast patio, the aim is more boutique guesthouse than full-service hotel, with individually themed guest rooms. You’re very well located for exploring Oaxaca’s vibrant city centre: the magnificent Templo de Santo Domingo convent is close by. There’s no onsite restaurant here but Oaxaca’s local dining scene is to be savoured with a host of options nearby. The hotel is a leisurely 10-minute stroll from the Zocalo in Oaxaca, via the gorgeous, pedestrianised Calle Macedonia Alcala – one of the city’s most historic streets.
