Nerea is ideal for a few days of simple beach living, spilling out on to the white sands of Tankah just a few paces from the aquamarine waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

There are touches of the Yucatán in the rustic yet stylish design: the delightful restaurant is in a typical thatched palapa, open to the breeze, and the bar is right behind the beach, with lovely ocean views. Guest rooms continue the regional theme, their unfussy décor lifted by natural materials and earthy tones.

Each of the 22 rooms and suites has a balcony or terrace. From the beachfront (lower) rooms you can literally step out from your terrace to a day bed on the sands, while swim-out rooms have direct access to the pool. Kayaks, bikes, paddle boards and snorkels are available for use on a complimentary basis.

What our clients say

  • The visit to Calakmul which was hard work but the reward of climbing the pyramids and seeing the jungle stretching in all directions will stay in the memory.  This was followed the next day by a wonderful, and unexpected, half day at Laguna Bacular.  We thought we were only going to be driving through on our way to Tulum.  However we were treated to an extensive tour of the fortress there followed by a superb boat trip on the lagoon.  It was the icing on the cake to a wonderful two days, with an excellent guide (Luis Alberto) and driver (Ivan).

  • “My sister summed it up by saying that there was nothing that she would have changed, the holiday was perfect. Mexico was a delight, we had never been before, the people sincerely friendly and helpful, the service as great but everything exceeded expectations. My sister and the children thought that the cenotes were amazing as they were such a surprise but we loved it all.”

    RN, Ascot
  • Highlights: Boat trip to Yaxchilan - jungle and ruins were great.  Gardens and pool at Hacienda Chichen were lovely. Cuernavaca was a lovely town and we enjoyed Robert Brady museum….San Cristobal - also lovely”

    CW, London
  • Most Memorable Moment?: Lots of highlights but probably street food and archaeology in Mexico City, fiestas in Oaxaca, Hotel Esencia, cenotes and hacienda trip in Merida (and the hotel).  We also found a great restaurant in SAN Christobal.

    KE, London
  • "Many highlights: The views at Uxmal. Waking up with a view of the observatory at Chichen Itza from our hotel bed. The excellent guides. The friendliness of the staff (and impromptu language lessons) at Petit Lafitte."

    TR, Farnham
  • "All of it was great so hard to pick out one thing. We had a lovely mix of ancient sites, modern art, great museums and time to relax. The Day of the Dead celebrations were the main reason for travelling to Mexico in Oct/Nov and, thanks to our guide, they fully met our expectations."

It's hard to believe that Evie has had time to cram so much in to her life so far. Having lived as a child in the Americas and Europe she found herself immediately attracted to Latin America.

Tankah beach offers a quieter alternative to the main resort centre of Tulum while still being within easy reach - just 10 minutes by taxi.
