Luxury beach hideaway with a minimalist philosophy: a place to clear the mind of clutter in an environment dedicated to your every comfort.

Hotel Esencia is one of few luxury hideaway properties on the Riviera Maya to welcome families, though this does not detract from a serene atmosphere that will suit honeymooners and people seeking total relaxation.

The estate is owned by an Italian duchess but has none of the baroque fussiness you might expect― it is simplicity itself, a place to clear out the mind of clutter and the preoccupations of daily life in an environment dedicated to your every comfort.

The sleek décor reflects the dazzling white of the long, broad beach outside, which also inspires the ornamentation: bits of driftwood, coral, shells and other items have been combed from the shore. In the tropical gardens there are large garden suites. Service is impeccable yet understated.

What our clients say

  • We loved this place - its situation is so beautiful and it has a lovely laid back feel.  It is very expensive.  The meals and wine are top price and I'm not sure the cuisine is quite up to it.  All the staff are friendly and welcoming.  The rooms were lovely, very comfortable beds, but perhaps a little more updating to justify the top dollar prices.  Small niggles really, we wouldn't have changed our visit and had a fantastic time.

Ben Line - Travel Expert

Ben fell in love with Latin America on a six month backpacking trip from Colombia to Mexico in 1995. Since then he has explored most of South America, including living in Peru for a year. He is now Head of Sales.

Esencia was a real treat after a busy self-drive tour of the Yucatan. Beautifully decorated, this luxury boutique hotel not only delivers on style but on service, which was exceptional; cuisine, which was the best we had in Mexico; and location, overlooking a stunning powdery white sand beach with no immediate neighbouring properties. This comes at a price of course, but it’s utterly worth the splurge!
