Peaceful and romantic lodge owned by Francis Ford Coppola, with colourful décor inspired by indigenous culture and outdoor areas where nature is allowed to take precedence.
One of film director Francis Ford Coppola's trio of unique properties in Belize and Guatemala, La Lancha overlooks Lake Petén Itzá in the lowland jungle just 20 minutes' drive from the archaeological masterpiece that is Tikal. It is an excellent, romantic choice for couples and honeymooners.
There are just ten rooms, each brightly decorated with indigenous artefacts and warm textiles that compliment the solid carved wooden furniture. Each casita has a large bedroom with a luxurious modern bathroom and a decked outdoor area perfect for appreciating the tranquillity of the lake and surrounding forest.
The main lodge, with its steep thatched roof, is where you'll take your breakfast to a chorus of tropical birds or sip a cocktail at sunset. You can take walks or boat trips from the lodge, canoe, fish or kayak on the lake, or adventure along a canopy walkway to observe the bird life. Later, cool off with a plunge into the garden-shrouded pool or relax on a lounger.
What our clients say
"Fantastic - really special hotel and a wonderful place. Loved this."JY,London
"What a place!!! Our son's name was known by all staff before we even checked in. Such a personal touch. The rooms and view are to die for. The staff should all be given a major bonus. OK the menu was a bit limited, but look where it is and nothing can be faulted at all."CS, Richmond
A lovely place, but quite a trek down a bumpy road to get anywhere. Still worth it once you are there but any trips you take involve this journey which is about 10km and takes a good half hour. Lovely to hear the howler monkeys. Breakfast a bit basic compared to the other places we stayed. However, the fresh fish at dinner was superb.LM Reading
"Another fantastic hotel! We enjoyed dining outdoors under the thatch roof. Howler monkeys woke us at 4am....a real experience. Canoes were available and we paddled towards town. Bird watching at 6am with Miguel was amazing - we saw 23 types of birds including the Ferruginous Pygmy Owl and the black headed Trogon!"FB, London
