Finca Hotel Cotopaxi Pungo is a cosy Spanish colonial style countryside hotel with magnificent views of snow-capped volcanoes including Cotopaxi.

It’s the views over the dominant snow-dipped mountain peaks, each with an icy mantle gleaming in the sunlight, which makes this attractive hotel and finca a popular choice for countryside lovers.

The three story white-washed building was inspired by traditional Spanish colonial techniques and design, as were the guest rooms, each of which has either balcony or terrace and large windows from which to enjoy the views. The rooms are made exceptionally cosy with open fireplaces (teo have an electric stove) and polished wood furnishings. There’s no TV in the rooms but there is access to Wifi.

The restaurant has floor to ceiling picture windows so you can enjoy mountain views as you tuck in to a menu of international and Andean dishes. There are walking trails around the property and horse-riding excursions are offered.

What our clients say

  • Most Memorable Moment?: Drving up Mt. Cotopaxi and watching a Gaucho chase a cow riding a horse at the gallop whilst trying to lassoe it on a cobbled road,...some rider!  The Papallacto hot baths. The basket ride across the canyion south of Banos.

    NBH, Watchet
  • Two parts: Seeing cotopaxi and the surrounding area for the first time, and stepping off the boat onto floreana and having to avoid sea lions and iguana, magical.

    HT, Conwy
  • Most Memorable Moment?: Very hard to say! Loved Hacienda Venecia, and Napo, and Bellavista, and the Avenue of the Volcanoes.

    DL, London
  • Ecuador is perhaps a most underrated country for a great visitor experience. The people are great and helpful and, for anyone with an interest in the natural world, there is so much variety to see and enjoy.

    IB, Kendal
  • Most memorable experiences: Snorkelling with huge sea turtles and iguanas whilst they were feeding with sea lions, penguins and flightless cormorants also coming to join in the party.

    LA, London
  • We had a wonderful time… we thought the guides we had were among the best we have known anywhere; we went for the Galápagos and would admit to mainland Ecuador being a bit of an “add on”, but we thought it was fabulous and would return - Quito was so much better than we expected.

Sophie Barber
Sophie Barber - Travel Expert

Sophie lived in Chile before joining us and has travelled extensively across Latin America, from Mexico to the furthest tip of Patagonia and beyond to Antarctica.

After a long day hiking in Cotopaxi, it was amazing to arrive at this comfortable hotel with spacious rooms and hot showers! All rooms look out over Cotopaxi volcano so enjoying a cold beer on your terrace whilst looking out over the splendid conical volcano was memorable. We were lucky to have a clear night when we were there and our guide showed us some of the major constellations – the star gazing was great and even better to return to the hotel lounge with the fire roaring!
