Sueno Azul Hotel
Simple ranch-style lodge in a beautiful rural setting, surrounded by cattle ranches and fruit plantations.
The secluded ranch-style Sueno Azul Hotel is set in the plains of northern Sarapiquí, surrounded by cattle ranches, fruit plantations and lush rainforest, an hour and a half's drive from San José. Whilst it dedicates a large proportion of its land to environmentally friendly programmes, it also offers a variety of enjoyable excursions (payable locally), such as nature tours, riding, canopying, tubing and botanical garden visits. What our clients say
97% of our clients rated their experience with us as Excellent or Good.
Most memorable experience: “Very difficult to be specific but an eclectic selection would include:- Boat trip excursion with excellent guide from Tortuga Lodge; Singer/Musician at Dinner at Arenal Nayara Hotel; Crossing Arenal Lake (clear blue skies and we were the only passengers on the boat) and then scenic drive to Monteverde”VB, Sloane Sqaure
Highlights “Our overall impression was how lovely all the people were that we met, amazing wildlife and very good food. Our most memorable experience was probably kayaking at Tortuguero although we also did a very good night walk when we were staying at Arenal, and spotted loads of frogs, toads, snakes and spiders.”JP, Newtown
Highlight?: All the wildlife, absolutely amazingDJ, Usk
It is difficult to single out any one part as being most memorable. For me (as a geologist) the trip to Poas Volcano was great. The ziplining at Punta Islita was superb.RH, Peterborough
Most Memorable Moment?: So many highlights that it is difficult to pick any one out - but the evening trip to the Turtle beach at Tortuguero, seeing Green Sea Turtles laying eggs and returning to the sea, was quite incredible.DD, Holmfirth
We had a really exceptional trip. The mix of beautiful scenery and amazing wildlife made it a real adventure and yet the logistics made it achievable and stress free. Costa Rica has beaches, wildlife and lots of outdoor fun (zip lines, rafting, and ATV trails for example) which make it ideal for a holiday which met the desires of all the family.GP, Warwick
The treks throughout the trip were superb. Excellent guides and the range of wildlife was stunning.WRDT, Bakewell
Most memorable experiences: White water rafting. Watching the turtles at Tortuguero. Everything about Montverde.RA, Lichfield
So many brilliant memories but if we had to pick one it was witnessing the sea turtle lay eggs on beach in Tortugero.PG, Galway
We always ask each other what the highlight was, but always fail. It was really the variety. There is really so much to remember.JS, Bath
The wildlife in Costa Rica is incredible and it is everywhere you go and very immediate. Add to that beautiful scenery and very friendly people and it is a great holiday destination.MJ, Canary Wharf
Costa Rica with Journey Latin America is one of the best holidays we have ever had, if not the best.MD, Southam
Highlight?: Visit to Tortuguero was exciting and remote. Rancho Margot was our favourite accommodation. It was a privilege to visit this beautiful country.MC, Arlesly
The whole Tortuguero experience was brilliant.TK, Leighton buzzard
So many - sloths close up, wild monkeys eating coconuts from our hand, finding a snake in Falls resort, zipwiring in Arenal, canoeing to old Costa Rican farmhouse, night walks in Monteverde, whale and dolphin watching on my birthday in Manuel Antonio, birdwatching in Tortuguero, massive iguanas in Mawamba, walking home from dinner in a massive downpour in Manuel Antonio, watching toucans and armadillo in Monteverde.JS, Amersham
Great mix of high adrenaline and chilled activities to suit all the family.JS, London
Turtle watching tour, zip wiring and white water rafting. Also enjoyed seeing all the wildlife living in its natural habitat.IH, Ipswich
So many memorable experiences - flying into Tortuguero, watching turtle hatchlings race to the sea, the boat ride out of Tortuguero, all the animals (including a mummy sloth with baby attached climb down a tree in the middle of a restaurant and then back up again), Monteverde scenery, Tamarindo beach, our son learning to surf, snorkelling in Cahuita and seeing a turtle and a nurse shark, how lovely the Costa Rican people are.SM, Chiswick
Highlight?: Seeing turtles laying eggs on the beach in TortugueroAD, Ilkley
Most memorable experience: "The amount and variety of wildlife in Tortuguero and Cahuita (which we visited separately). I lived in San Jose from 1978-1981 and never saw so much variety, even including visits to Monteverde...Review: As I used to live in CR and planned some time visiting friends, JLA was able to combine my choice of places to visit with accommodation with my independent arrangements."JW, Crowborough
Highlights:- Hard to choose, but the noises and sounds surrounding us all day and night, created by all the wildlife was fantastic. Never heard anything like it and loved it. The Costa Rican hospitability is something to live up to they have it right!ST, Swords
Highlights? Bosque Del Cabo, Rafiki and Maquenque, absolutely wonderful.ASP, Bexhill-on-sea
Clearly the beauty and and profuseness of the country was inspiring. There were multiple highlights including some which we ourselves arranged, chocolate and vanilla farm visits especially.DS, Cardigan
Costa Rica is a stunning country: in terms of its people, who are so warm and welcoming; its ethical basis and its phenomenal wildlife. Snorkelling at Cano Island was truly memorable as was having toucans feet away at La Paloma. We are so pleased we added on a partial transit of The Panamá Canal: the experience was one we shall never forget. The other think to mention is that Kathryn organised the tour exactly the right way round.: we met others who had done it differently and they regretted doing so.JS, Brighton
Highlight?: The wildlife - watching the turtles lay eggs and a swimming sloth.ID, London
Everything felt "easy" and stress free. The most memorable aspect was driving through fantastic scenery, so much to see!AF, Cardiff
Most memorable experiences: "Snorkelling off the island at Corcovado seeing the marine wildlife then returning by boat seeing dolphins and turtles in the sea; Kayaking excursion form Tortuga Lodge (extra cost but worth it) - sitting watching spider monkeys a few feet a way form us drinking juice form the fruit, with caymen in close attendance."DO, Bedford
Highlights?: Very hard to select 1 or 2 things. However would probably say Travelling to and staying at Tortuga Lodge and the excursions into the Jungle (in 3 days we saw over 60 different birds / mammals / reptiles !!!) and also the Zip lining at Arenal - breathtaking and exhilarating - what views and what an adrenalin rush ! ! ...Costa Rica is an amazing country - small, but with so much to offer and so diverse ! The people were very friendly and welcoming and the weather was great !TW, Glasgow
Highlights: Monkeys and macaws on the trees by our bedroom ,and the White water rafting to and from Pacuare Lodge and swimming down the river!JB, Ashford
Highlights:- The wildlife in Costa Rica is incredible and it is everywhere you go and very immediate. Add to that beautiful scenery and very friendly people and it is a great holiday destination.MJ, E14
