Chayote Lodge
A welcoming lodge set among coffee farms to the north-west of San José, yet within easy reach of the airport. Choose from a wide range of off-the-beaten-track excursions.
Chayote Lodge offers rustic and tranquil accommodation in the central highlands to the north-west of San José. Located just outside Naranjo, a small settlement of around 200 people, and surrounded by a tapestry of smallholdings and coffee fincas, it’s a great base for experiencing the country’s rural heartland, either at the start or end of your trip.
The 12 bungalows, inspired by the architecture of traditional coffee-receiving stations, are comfortable and full of handcrafted details. Each has a private terrace with sweeping views over the surrounding countryside and distant volcanoes.
The lodge has its own restaurant, open to the public, serving Costa Rican cuisine, as well as a bar and cosy lounge area with a fireplace.
Guests can choose from a variety of tours at an additional cost, including coffee tours, morning birdwatching excursions, visits to the market in nearby Naranjo, and guided walks in the El Chayote Forest Reserve, a 400-hectare area of protected primary and secondary forest.
