La Cusinga Ecolodge
La Cusinga Ecolodge is an intimate family-run property swathed in jungle close to sweeping Pacific beaches.
Set on a hill within a private jungle reserve overlooking the Pacific Ocean, La Cusinga is a family-run ecolodge, accredited for its conservation and environmental efforts. There’s also an accent on wellness, and the property features a yoga studio. You stay in one of ten attractive individual wooden cottages, all with high ceilings and large stone bathrooms.
Each has its own private balcony with spectacular views out to the ocean, where passing dolphins and whales can be spotted. There's a covered veranda for enjoying the ocean view. A 15 minute jungle walk where you can spot howler monkeys, sloths, and exotic birds leads to the lodge's own private beach - beautifully secluded, with rainforest spilling on to the white sand. Food at the lodge is excellent, with a variety of fresh Costa Rican dishes, and there's a selection of equally good restaurants in the nearby village.
What our clients say

There were so many highlights it is difficult to single one out. The wildlife, around hotel gardens etc and not just in the reserves, was particularly impressive. Viewing it from a boat at Tortuguero and Cana Nedra was particularly enjoyable. Tthe countryside is varied and beautiful so that even the transfers were a pleasure.VC, South croydon
Everything was organised like clockwork but without feeling intrusive. The whole itinerary fully met our needs with fabulous hotels and some really exiting journeys. The flight from Punta Islita being a particular highlight, along with the journey from Arenal to MonteVerde. Costa Rica with Journey Latin America is one of the best holidays we have ever had, if not the best. Thank you and particularly to Hannah.”LD, Harpenden
Highlight?: Tortuguera boat trip, rafting Arenal, hot springs Arenal, zip wires Monteverde, running on the beach in Uvita - so many lovely memoriesSL, London
The wildlife in Costa Rica is incredible and it is everywhere you go and very immediate. Add to that beautiful scenery and very friendly people and it is a great holiday destination.MJ, Canary Wharf
So many - sloths close up, wild monkeys eating coconuts from our hand, finding a snake in Falls resort, zipwiring in Arenal, canoeing to old Costa Rican farmhouse, night walks in Monteverde, whale and dolphin watching on my birthday in Manuel Antonio, birdwatching in Tortuguero, massive iguanas in Mawamba, walking home from dinner in a massive downpour in Manuel Antonio, watching toucans and armadillo in Monteverde.JS, Amersham
Costa Rica lived up to our expectations in every way. We all had a fantastic family holiday.EJ, London
Most memorable experience: “Very difficult to be specific but an eclectic selection would include:- Boat trip excursion with excellent guide from Tortuga Lodge; Singer/Musician at Dinner at Arenal Nayara Hotel; Crossing Arenal Lake (clear blue skies and we were the only passengers on the boat) and then scenic drive to Monteverde”VB, Sloane Sqaure
Highlights?: There were so many. Seeing a toucan land in the tree just by our room at El Remanso. Walking down the trail at Monteverde Lodge and a beautiful Morpho butterfly fluttering past in the sunlight. The boat ride at Tortuguero.KS, Uxbridge
Although the transfers were quite long the mix between eg driving and taking a boat were good and made us feel we really saw the country.ME
Most memorable experiences: "Snorkelling off the island at Corcovado seeing the marine wildlife then returning by boat seeing dolphins and turtles in the sea; Kayaking excursion form Tortuga Lodge (extra cost but worth it) - sitting watching spider monkeys a few feet a way form us drinking juice form the fruit, with caymen in close attendance."DO, Bedford

Highlight?: Tortoguero without a doubt-felt truly isolate in the rain forest and it was breathtaking in terms of the biodiversity.SW, Surbiton
It is difficult to single out any one part as being most memorable. For me (as a geologist) the trip to Poas Volcano was great. The ziplining at Punta Islita was superb.RH, Peterborough
Most memorable experience: "Diversity of the country. Outstanding bird life and flora and fauna.Very friendly and helpful people."RC, Lymington
The noises and sounds surrounding us all day and night, created by all the wildlife was fantastic. Never heard anything like it and loved it. The Costa Rican hospitability is something to live up to they have it right!St, Swords
Highlights “Our overall impression was how lovely all the people were that we met, amazing wildlife and very good food. Our most memorable experience was probably kayaking at Tortuguero although we also did a very good night walk when we were staying at Arenal, and spotted loads of frogs, toads, snakes and spiders.”JP, Newtown
We have many good memories and it's difficult to identify a single best experience. Each of the Lodges we stayed at impressed us by their environmental policies. Each had comfortable accommodation ranging from quite simple to quite extravagant. Importantly for us they were each located in different types of habitat so although there was some overlap in what we saw, there were sufficient differences for us to be continually interested.NW, Carnforth
A brilliant mixture of hotels. Excellent standard and great service. Beautiful settings and well located.LW, NW11
Highlights?: Very hard to select 1 or 2 things. However would probably say Travelling to and staying at Tortuga Lodge and the excursions into the Jungle (in 3 days we saw over 60 different birds / mammals / reptiles !!!) and also the Zip lining at Arenal - breathtaking and exhilarating - what views and what an adrenalin rush ! ! ...Costa Rica is an amazing country - small, but with so much to offer and so diverse ! The people were very friendly and welcoming and the weather was great !TW, Glasgow
Turtle watching tour, zip wiring and white water rafting. Also enjoyed seeing all the wildlife living in its natural habitat.IH, Ipswich
Everything was amazing...This is the best family holiday we have ever had. Even our 20 year old daughter, who has travelled extensively, agreed that Costa Rica is wonderfully unique. The itinerary provided by Joirney Latin America provided a varied and interestingly diverse view of the country. Each accommodation was memorable and contributed towards an amazing trip. Thank you.RW, Cheltenham
Great mix of high adrenaline and chilled activities to suit all the family.JS, London
Highlight?: The wildlife - watching the turtles lay eggs and a swimming sloth.ID, London
It was all pretty memorable but the view of the Arenal volcano from our boat transfer across the lake sticks in my mind. It was a completely clear day and the volcano was steaming. Also the sleeping toucan on the El Refugio Twilight Tour. Also Rio Perdido was a lovely place for a couple of days relaxation.EW, Newport
So much variety of wildlife and vegetationAB, Sandy
Highlight?: Flying down the ziplines at Arenal was truly incredible. We had a clear day, too, with amazing views of the volcano and lake to distract us from the fact we were 200m up!DR, London
The whole Tortuguero experience was brilliant.TK, Leighton buzzard
