An exceptional luxury eco-lodge on Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula, with stylish accommodation, spectacular views and a range of wildlife-spotting activities.

Lapa Rios is an exclusive eco-lodge set within a 1,000-acre private reserve of tropical lowland rainforest near Corcovado National Park. Views throughout the property are simply stunning – overlooking the jungle canopy, where toucans and scarlet macaws fly between the treetops, and out to the Pacific Ocean.

The main lodge houses the restaurant, bar and pool area. A series of steps and walkways lead down to the stylish thatched bungalows, each featuring a large private deck with loungers, hammocks and an outdoor shower, along with spectacular ocean or jungle vistas. Some rooms also offer air conditioning and private plunge pools. A short drive away lies a beautiful, secluded stretch of beach for guests to enjoy.

Despite these comforts, the main attraction is undoubtedly the rainforest and its extraordinary wildlife. A stay at Lapa Rios includes a range of tours led by expert naturalist guides. Options include morning or sunset birdwatching, jungle hikes of varying lengths and difficulty, night walks, visits to nearby beaches and learning about the medicinal uses of local plants.

A selection of off-site excursions is also available at an additional cost, including whale watching in the Golfo Dulce (July to early October), kayaking, surfing and horseback riding. Guests wishing to visit Corcovado National Park on a day trip should confirm this at the time of booking so that permits can be secured.

Lapa Rios Lodge works closely with local communities and has established a primary school as well as teaching adults about conservation. The lodge uses solar energy, biomass boilers and biodegradable cleaning products.
