Turtle Beach Lodge
Basic but comfortable lodge accessible only by boat, affording excellent wildlife spotting opportunities including guided turtle nesting tours.
The simple and secluded Turtle Beach Lodge borders a private stretch of beach on the Caribbean sea, ensconced within a lush jungle setting beside a meandering canal. Adding a touch of adventure, it is only accessible by boat, suddenly appearing around a river bend as you journey through the steamy wilderness of Tortuguero National Park.
The outstanding wildlife watching opportunities are very much the main attraction here: monkeys are almost ever-present amongst the treetops, frogs and reptiles can often be seen within the grounds and colourful birds enliven the greenery all around.
A particular highlight for many is the chance to see leatherbacks, loggerheads and hawksbills on one of the guided night-time turtle tours during the nesting season. Borrowing one of the lodge's kayaks and silently paddling along the jungle-shrouded channels to spot undisturbed wildlife is also not to be missed. The cabañas are basic but bright and airy, and there is a good pool, a simple restaurant and a bar, all enhanced by their jungle setting.
What our clients say

Kenneth, our guide, was very good, knowledgeable and ensured everyone knew where to be and at what time etc. The wildlife in and around the hotel was amazing!
Fabulous location. Can only be accessed by boat and no wifi or mobile reception so felt wonderfully remote. One side of the hotel is tropical river access and the other is the roaring Caribean Sea. Well organised operation although rooms very basic but waking up to the noise of howler monkeys was very special. Our guide Marvin was incredibly knowledgable and helpful.KB, Lochgilphead
The room was probably the most basic of the hotels we stayed in, but everything else was just wonderful: on one side a breathtaking wild caribbean beach and on the other canals winding through the rainforest. Food was possibly the best we had on the whole trip.KDP, Jersey
loved this place. the accommodation itself was v basic- I would recommend brining a decent head torch as the roomlight was not v bright and there was nowhere to store cases/clothes etc. but being in the rainforest and waking up to the sounds of however monkeys was fabulous. The guide was excellent and we made friends with the rest of our group over the wonderful cocktails! and the wildlife was breathtaking- highlight of the trip for meSW, Surbiton
