Rancho Margot
Sitting on the lakeshore in the scenic foothills of Arenal volcano, this agreable ranch particpates in ecotourism and agriculture projects, giving a real sense of community
Staying at the friendly and welcoming Rancho Margot, wholeheartedly dedicated to sustainable living, is an experience in itself. You are free to roam around its 400 acres of land, participate in organic farming activities or free yoga sessions, and enjoy the two warm and cool, untreated pools, fringed by tropical foliage. Mosses, vines and wild flowers cover public spaces and the roofs of the individual bungalows, which are stylishly decorated inside with white walls and wooden accents.
Sitting on the lakeshore in the scenic foothills of Arenal volcano, the ranch takes on volunteers to help with ecotourism and agriculture projects, giving a real sense of community. Almost all the produce needed to feed the staff, family and guests is grown on site and is imaginatively prepared by the chef: the wonderful food is often remarked upon by guests.

Our Expert's Opinion
Whilst some supposedly 'eco' hotels might leave a little note asking you to reuse your towels, others will surprise you with a well-established, intrinsic culture of sustainability. As I found on a recent trip to Costa Rica many hotels and lodges are really making progress in this arena and some, like Rancho Margot, are taking sustainability to new levels.
