With an exquisite design and dreamy setting amidst tropical forest on the lower flanks of a perfect volcano, Amor Arenal is much more than just another luxury lodge.

The wilderness feels close here, with natural spring pools in which to bathe, trails leading into the forest and privileged views of the volcanic cone above the treetops. This is a place where you can relax and be pampered as well as explore the Arenal Volcano National Park close by.

Amor Arenal’s rooms are actually casitas and are beautifully crafted so as not to detract from the overwhelmingly natural feel of the place: rich hardwood floors and frames are offset by exposed stone feature walls and floor to ceiling windows. Each has either 1 King-size or 2 Queen-size beds with crisp linens, a wide terrace and its own plunge pool, and their elevated positions are designed to catch the breeze. All casitas are air-conditioned, with great attention to detail to ensure most luxurious amenities and modern conveniences have been thought of including a well-stocked complimentary minibar, coffee maker, cable TV and Wi-Fi. Although the hotel’s setting means there is an element of uphill/downhill walking between your room and the facilities, golf carts are available to take you around the expansive property should you desire.

The hotel’s main restaurant, El Rancho, offers a varied menu with a focus on local, sustainable produce. A selection of exclusive dining experiences is available too with a ‘Chef’s Corner’ tasting menu or a private dinner in the hotel’s wine cellar. If you fancy a coffee and a freshly baked pastry or sandwich then stop by La Granea, the hotel’s coffee shop.

The focus on wellness at Amor Arenal means there is a beautiful open-air spa for massages and other treatments, and guests can enjoy a complimentary daily wellness class (yoga, meditation or sound healing). Other facilities include two natural pools, a separate wet bar, and a gym. There are also a couple of trails through the property which you can explore by yourself or in the company of a naturalist guide.

  • Costa Rica as a whole was very impressive in its attitude towards eco-tourism. Actively reforesting areas that have previously been de-forested and setting up new areas of rain forest/park.
