The most recent addition to the Tierra hotel chain's prestigious portfolio, this exclusive, ultra contemporary hotel overlooks the fjords and rolling hills of Chiloé Island.

The Chilean Tierra hotels are innovative, first class properties set in magical places where you can explore the extreme landscapes of wilderness Chile. Tierra Chiloé sits on a hill with views over the sea and rolling hills of Chiloé Island, 18km from the capital, Castro.

In stark contrast to the folksy, bucolic style of the traditional wooden edifices on Chiloé Island, this property is contemporary in style but not at the expense of local flavour. Its ultra-modern geometrical exterior is clad in classic Chilote wood shingle, giving it an unmistakable sense of place. Even inside you never feel far away from the hotel's fabulous setting: each of its minimalist guest rooms has a picture window and sweeping fjord or wetland views. Meanwhile, the lounge - with its floor to ceiling windows - is flooded with light and warmed by an open fire. Magical.

There's an original and insightful choice of excursions on land and by boat, led by the hotel's own guides and included as part of your stay. After a day spent exploring you can unwind in the spa with Jacuzzi, steam room and massage service before settling into a delicious evening meal, accompanied by superb Chilean wines. There's also an outdoor heated pool with views of the Pacific.

Our Expert's Opinion

A highlight was the day out on board the Williche. We explored quaint villages seemingly lost in time, went sea-kayaking, and ate the most succulent mussels I've ever tasted.
