An inspired and innovative property with high quality facilities where you are encouraged to feel part of the desert environment but from a vantage point of comfort and stye.

Smart, casual, earthy, rustic, simple and luxurious at the same time. The innovative Alto Atacama is far from just accommodation.  Here, you will feel enveloped by the desert landscape within and beyond the walls of the property which is constructed with materials hewn from the immediate environment and reflects its natural tawny colours.

The spacious rooms and suites, cooled by terracotta tiled floors and decorated in muted colours enhanced with local crafts open out onto the gardens with views to the rust-hued cordillera beyond.  Many of the public areas are open to the sky: it very seldom rains here and the night time star-scape in unpolluted skies is magical; you can gaze at it from a comfy sofa warmed by an open fire. The luxury aspect is defined with refined cuisine, several outdoor swimming pools and a spa with Finnish sauna and Turkish bath, and the hotel has its own telescope. If you can tear yourself away from the top quality facilities you can borrow a bike to explore the immediate area.

What our clients say

  • Very impressive spa/hotel and all staff and guides were very helpful and knowledgable.

    TS, Exmouth
  • “Alto Atacama was fantastic a real treat and rest towards the end of our holiday. We cycled to the salty lagoons where we could float in the saline solution. What they didn’t warn us was that the lagoon water was freezing cold.”

    TT, Bolton
  • "A highlight was the excellent level of service and hospitality of the staff at the Alto Atacama."

    SR, Chelmsford
  • This was a truly excellent hotel with the wonderful Rosario (Hotel Manager) pampering us to our every need! The only thing we could find fault with were the 'polar bear' plunge pools - extremely cold......

Sophie
Sophie Barber - Travel Expert

Sophie lived in Chile before joining us and has travelled extensively across Latin America, from Mexico to the furthest tip of Patagonia and beyond to Antarctica.

I loved the adobe design of the hotel which complemented the local surroundings and, at sunset, the ochre colour of the sun reflected in the mountains behind the hotel. I enjoyed a delicious outdoor asado (barbeque) one evening and then, once the sun had set, I took advantage of the hotel’s own open air telescope to enjoy the infamous Atacama stargazing – a real highlight!
