Ride the Pioneer Trail on horseback

The spectacular pass known as the Cochamó Trail winds its way over the Andes, across fast-flowing rivers, through dense Valdivian rainforest and past waterfalls cascading into aquamarine pools. This is a wilderness landscape to stir the soul, and we think the best way to appreciate it is on horseback.

Setting off from the rustic Riverside Lodge, you’ll ride along the river valley passing alerce forests and wild flower meadows. On arrival at another small and cosy lodge in the tiny hamlet of La Junta, you’ll be met by the irresistible aroma of a sizzling asado barbeque, prepared for you over an open fire by the local huasos.

The next day there’s time to explore La Junta’s nature trails, swish down a natural waterslide and swim in rock pools, or just relax at the lodge before riding back.
