Maloka Barlovento
At the edge of the stunning and untouched Tayrona National Park is Maloka Barlovento, where the sound of crashing Caribbean waves and the lush tropical jungle backdrop make you feel like you’ve stepped away from everything. The buildings are designed to reflect the areas indigenous dwellings with their dramatic thatched roofs and plenty of open spaces to make the most of the wonderful (and most welcome) sea breeze. The rooms feature white washed walls with plenty of local art work adding splashes of colour throughout, all have en-suite bathrooms (cold water only which is very welcome indeed) and views over the sea, river and jungle. There is a restaurant specialising in local Colombian cuisine, a bar to enjoy a drink whilst watching the sunset as well as a spa, swimming pool and of course access to the stunning beach just below. Sustainability is important to the hotel so they minimise the use of plastics and minimise water and energy use, however there is WiFi. The staff are from the local community and therefore won’t necessarily speak English, but they’re willing to learn and will always be able to help.
