Charmingly quirky little guesthouse in a well-preserved colonial building, with a bold, cheerful and eclectic decorative style.

Although it may at first resemble a typically small Brazilian pousada, the Sandi is a surprisingly spacious hotel which – along with its 40 or so guest rooms and range of facilities – occupies a typically charming cobbled street in the historic heart of the gorgeous little town of Paraty.

At its core is a whitewashed 17th-century townhouse, a photogenic relic of the Portuguese colonial era. It was originally an elementary school, then a social club, before being transformed into a hotel.

The exterior of the building is beautifully preserved. Meanwhile on the inside, guestrooms are cheerfully decorated in bold, bright colours. Those on first floor retain their elegant floor to ceiling windows with wrought-iron juliet balconies railings. Amidst the hotel are outdoor terraces and two restaurants as well as a swimming pool, sauna and small fitness room.
