Modern vessel with a nautical feel with an emphasis on a variety of Antarctic experiences on different departures throughout the season..

This nautical-feel ship is staffed by an enthusiastic team of mostly European guides with scientific qualifications who have the ability to make your explorations fun as well as informative. The vessel accommodates up to 108 guests cared for by a crew and expeditionary staff of just under 50. She's a good option for multinational, independent-minded guests seeking an expedition-style experience

The atmosphere is very informal and friendly, with plenty of opportunities for guests of maybe a dozen different nationalities to mingle during meals or in the large observation deck/presentation room  which doubles as a bar and area for socialising. When you arrive at a destination, there are a couple of landings per day subject to local conditions, with maximum possible time spent on shore visits supplemented by informative and entertaining presentations, videos and slide shows.

In addition to the classic routes, Plancius may offer departures allowing for whale-watching or the tracking of migratory birds at the end of the season. In addition, on one or two departures she will drop anchor at a select few destinations in Antarctica, where she will offer a range of optional adventure activities and sports: camping, kayaking, scuba diving, hiking, mountaineering or snowshoeing: on these Basecamp Plancius departures all except diving are included in the cost.
