Hannah Donaldson

Travel Consultants
Hannah spent a number of years in Colombia as a child, and has also lived in Brazil, where she worked in tourism, and in Costa Rica, volunteering at a centre for local children. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese and studied both languages as part of her degree in Latin American Studies.

Hannah particularly loves the landscape of Chile, the people of Colombia and the variety and vibrancy of Brazil. She enjoys being active and has hiked both the Salkantay and Lares trek in Peru, been white water rafting on the Pacuare River in Costa Rica and went horse riding across the sand dunes in the Atacama Desert.

Having worked at Journey Latin America for several years and acquired yet more travel experience to add to her sales and interpersonal skills, proving to be a valued member of our Tailor-made holiday department. She has since moved across to our Group Tours team and is proving to be equally invaluable in this role.

My favourite place in Latin America

Some of my favourite places and experiences from my travels in Latin America would have to include the Atacama Desert, the Easter parade at Popayán in Colombia, and the Amazon - I have particularly great memories of travelling by dug-out canoe through the rainforest, stopping off for lunch with Amazonian tribes people.

My top tips

Street food in Granada, Nicaragua, can be fantastic. Try a popular dish called Nacatamales, which consists of dough, potato, corn and shredded pork, all wrapped and cooked in a banana leaf. The poetry festival is also a real treat if you are lucky enough to visit Granada at the right time. Poetry has been and still is incredibly important to the people of Nicaragua, and they celebrate this in Granada for a week in February each year.

If you are looking to splash out on accommodation, Iguazú Falls is a very good place to do it. There are two hotels which overlook the falls, the Sheraton on the Argentinean side and Das Cataratas on the Brazilian side. These are both first class hotels and give you the luxury of being able to explore the falls straight from your hotel, including at times when they are closed to the public.
