Returning from his recent trip to Panama, Ben Line, Manager of our Tailor-made holiday department shares his top 5 restaurants and bars in Panama City.

Danilo’s Jazz Club:
Panama City’s premier jazz club (named after Grammy-winner Danilo Perez) offers an intimate experience in a beautiful building located in Casco Viejo. The club hosts a mix of international artists and local talent and is also a central venue for the annual Panama Jazz Festival which draws guests and performers from around the world. There is a choice of indoor seating and live jazz on most Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Book in advance at the American Trade Hotel (guests will often be given a free entry per stay at the hotel).

Salsipuedes:
Located within the Bristol Hotel, this is one of the best restaurants in the city, specialising in gourmet cuisine with a Panamanian flair. The characterful bar is also an ideal place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink from their comprehensive menu.

Gato Blanco:
Great views of the city’s skyscraper skyline and the district of Casco Viejo from one of the latest trendy but informal rooftop bars in the Old Town. Watch sunsets and the city lights illuminate.

La Rana Dorada:
Run by the owners of Colombia’s highly successful Bogota Beer Company, “The Golden Frog” has two locations in Panama with the better of the two located on the edge of the Casco Viejo.With indoor and outdoor tables, this cerveceria is a must for anyone seeking out locally produced craft beers and ales. The tasty pizza is also excellent value.

Tantalo:
Hip boutique hotel in a beautifully restored building boasting a well regarded Spanish tapas restaurant with an upmarket trendy ambiance. The rooftop bar is considered one of the best in Panama City with incredible views of the city skyline and historic buildings surrounding Casco Viejo. If you’re around on a Wednesday make sure to head to Tantalo for their Latin night.
