Jacana Extension

Ask our Experts

Looking at the Jacana Discovery Journey. Is there any wind down extension at the Peru end? If so details please.

Asked by J B

Dear Mr. B,

Thank you for getting in touch and for your interest in our Jacana Journey. Depending on the time of year you travel, there are a number of wind-down options you could consider at the end of this tour.

One very popular tour extension is to visit the seaside town of Paracas, which is a short drive down the desert coast from Lima, where the Jacana Journey finishes. There are a handful of well-appointed hotels in Paracas, any of which would provide the perfect base for a spot of relaxation after a long tour. This is a region of South America renowned for its gastronomy, with fresh ceviche and locally-produced pisco sour being amongst the most well-known delicacies, and you won’t lack for nice dining options!

If you’d like to combine relaxing with a little sightseeing, Paracas is well placed for visiting the enigmatic Nasca Lines: geometric designs etched into the desert, which are best appreciated from the air owing to their awesome size. The Ballestas Islands nature reserve in Paracas Bay is another big draw to the region, home to (amongst other creatures) Sealions, penguins, pelicans, and flamingos, as well as marine mammals such as dolphins, sharks and whales. Alternatively, if you’re tired after your journey, you may decide simply to visit a vineyard or Pisco distillery to learn about the production of Peru’s national drink (and maybe sample a few glasses too!).

If you don’t mind travelling a little further afield for your wind-down, and like the idea of spending some time on a white-sand beach, Peru has good air links with Panama (3 hours 30 minutes’ flight) and Costa Rica (4 hours’ flight) and you could be on the beach with a couple of hours’ drive from the airport at a place like Bristol Buenaventura.

If you’d like to give me a call to discuss the trip and run through the different possibilities in more detail my direct line is 0208 600 1875.
