Visit Calakmul Mayan ruins

Calakmul Archaeological Zone, Mexico

Explore a remote Mayan city, still offering a real sense of exploration and adventure.

Release your inner Indiana Jones on a visit to the remote, jungle-swathed lost city of Calakmul. Still half-entangled in vines and roots, this atmospheric ruin known as ‘the Kingdom of the Snake’ was once the seat of one of the largest and most dominant powers within the Mayan empire, with an estimated population of 50,000.

Though hugely significant and architecturally impressive, the site is off the beaten track and all the more magical for it – the foliage-smothered remains are tremendously photogenic, and you may even spot native wildlife wandering among the ruins.
