Visit the flamingos of Celestun

mex24-celestun-free-mn

Observe flocks of flamingos numbering in the thousands at Lake Celestún.

The small fishing town of Celestún is set in the middle of a wildlife sanctuary studded with lagoons and freshwater springs. It’s best known for its colourful congregation of flamingos, most populous between March and September, but there’s a host of other waterfowl species to be spotted here including egrets, herons and sandpipers.

Our tour begins with a boat ride along the beach before continuing along the estuary through a petrified forest and a tangle of mangroves. Finally visit Lake Celestún, where hundreds or even thousands of spindly-legged pink flamingos can be seen feeding and nesting in the shallows.
