Charming and friendly guesthouse in a 17th-century hacienda on the idyllic Isla del Sol, with magnificent views over the cobalt waters of Lake Titicaca.

A former presidential summerhouse, this rustic 17th-century hacienda is an attractive and serene place to stay on the enchanting Isla del Sol.

The charming, friendly Posada del Inca Isla del Sol prides itself on drawing power from solar energy and working hand in hand with the local community to help retain its traditions. There are just 20 simply furnished rooms, equipped with a heater and electric blanket to ward off the chill of nights spent at high altitude. The restaurant serves local dishes, and there’s an oxygen bar.

There are Inca artefacts and restored antiques peppered around the property. The hotel is reached via a flight of steep steps followed by an uphill path – worth the climb for the panorama that unfolds at the top. Guests are frequently amazed by the spectacular views across the cobalt waters of Lake Titicaca, and by the utter tranquillity of the island: there are no motorised vehicles here.
