Explore Cajas National Park
Whether as a terrifically scenic route between Cuenca and Guayaquil or simply a rewarding day trip in itself, Cajas National Park has much to offer lovers of the outdoors.
The mist rolling over this empty wilderness of lakes and craggy hills lends the area an eerie beauty, while in the lowlands to the east and west of the park, cloud forests provide a habitat for hummingbirds and the elusive spectacled bear.
A network of trails criss-crosses the páramo, rising to 4,000m, offering the chance to explore the landscape, spot birds or hike amongst mossy, tangled forests of quinua trees.
